MGM 112 Type 331 is the screened 3.3 kV design of the MGM 112 family: a 1900/3300 V armoured rubber cable with three individually screened phase cores and one unscreened earth core. It is built to the MGM 112 specification of the Turkish Hard Coal Enterprises MGM mining cable series.
At 3.3 kV the braided screen on each phase core controls the electric field around the insulation and gives an earthed path next to every phase, so insulation damage shows up as a phase-to-earth fault that the protection can trip on. With 3.0 mm EPR phase insulation, galvanized steel pliable armour and a heavy-duty chloroprene sheath, it feeds excavating and crushing machines in deep mines where explosive gases and dust can accumulate, and on surface.

Application & Features
Selection overview
Type 331 is used where a mine distributes power at 3.3 kV to large machines: continuous miners, roadheaders and shearers, heavy crushers and breakers, and the section transformers and switchgear that feed them. Running at 3.3 kV instead of 1.1 kV cuts the current for the same power by a factor of three, so longer runs can be made on smaller conductors. The individually screened cores make the cable suitable for the earth-leakage and earth-continuity protection normally used on 3.3 kV mine circuits.
The galvanized steel pliable armour protects the cable against crushing and impact while it is still flexible enough to be re-routed as the equipment advances. If your 3.3 kV system does not require screened cores, the unscreened MGM 112 Type 321 is the alternative; for 660/1100 V machines use the screened Type 201 or Type 211.
- 3.3 kV machine supplyFeeds continuous miners, roadheaders, crushers and 3.3 kV section switchgear in deep mines and on surface.
- Braided screen on every phaseTinned copper / nylon braid over each phase core for field control and fast earth-fault detection.
- Dedicated earth coreUnscreened earth conductor from 1×16 to 1×70 mm² in the layup, independent of the armour.
- Armoured and chloroprene sheathedGalvanized steel pliable armour under a heavy-duty chloroprene sheath; mine approval quoted per order.

Construction
Material and build-up
MGM 112 Type 331 is a round four-core cable. Three screened phase cores and one unscreened earth core are laid up in contact, covered by a rubber bedding, armoured with galvanized steel pliable wires and sheathed in heavy-duty chloroprene.
- Conductor: stranded tinned copper, IEC 60228 Class 5, from 196/0.40 mm (25 mm²) to 608/0.50 mm (120 mm²).
- Phase insulation: EPR, 3.0 mm thick on all sizes, dimensioned for the 7.5 kV test voltage.
- Phase screens: tinned copper / nylon braid over each phase core; the three screens together give 0.55 to 1.35 Ω/km in parallel.
- Earth core: unscreened tinned copper conductor, 1×16 to 1×70 mm², with EPR insulation 3.6 to 4.0 mm thick.
- Bedding: rubber-based bedding compound, 2.5 to 5.0 mm radial, over the four-core layup.
- Armour: galvanized steel pliable armour, 7/0.90 mm up to 7/1.25 mm strand size.
- Outer sheath: heavy-duty chloroprene compound, 5.1 to 7.3 mm radial, for abrasion, impact and oil exposure.
FAQ
Selection questions
What is MGM 112 Type 331 and how does it differ from Type 321?
Both are 1900/3300 V armoured MGM 112 cables with EPR-insulated tinned Class 5 copper, a steel armour and a chloroprene sheath. Type 331 has a tinned copper / nylon braided screen on each phase core, with the cores laid in contact. MGM 112 Type 321 has no screens and lays its cores around an elastomeric cradle so they do not touch. Choose Type 331 where the 3.3 kV protection scheme needs screened phase cores.
Can I use Type 331 on a 1.1 kV circuit?
It will work electrically, but it is larger and heavier than needed: a 3×50+35 mm² Type 331 weighs 9750 kg/km against 7080 kg/km for the 660/1100 V MGM 112 Type 211 of the same size. Use Type 201 or 211 for 660/1100 V machines unless you want one cable type for both voltage levels.
Which details are needed for a quotation?
Send the size such as 3×70+50 mm², the length per drum and total quantity, the system voltage and earthing arrangement, any sheath marking requirement, and the mine authority whose approval or test report you need. Our engineers confirm the construction and return the approved datasheet with the quotation.
How does MGM 112 Type 331 compare with MGM 111 Type 320/321?
MGM 111 Type 320 and 321 are also 1900/3300 V screened, armoured cables in the Turkish MGM series, but they follow the MGM 111 specification: semiconducting layers around the insulation, a braid over the insulated cores, and on Type 320 an earth conductor that is not insulated. MGM 112 Type 331 screens only the phase cores and keeps a fully insulated, unscreened earth core. Compare diameter, weight and armour on both datasheets before substituting, or browse the MGM mining cable category.

Quality Assurance
Testing at every stage in our own workshop and laboratory, from incoming copper to the packed drum.

Raw Material Inspection
Every batch of copper rod, rubber compound and reinforcing material is checked before it reaches the line.
- Copper: conductor resistance, elongation and surface condition on incoming rod and drawn wire
- EPR, CPE, PUR and silicone compounds: hardness, tensile strength, elongation and ageing samples from each mix
- Suppliers and batch numbers are recorded so every drum can be traced back to its materials

Manufacturing Process Control
Stranding, insulation extrusion, core assembly and sheathing run under recorded process parameters.
- Class 5/6 stranding with lay length and tension monitored for trailing and reeling flexibility
- Continuous-vulcanisation extrusion with wall thickness and spark tests logged on every length
- Operators sign off each stage before the cable moves to the next machine

Electrical Testing
Finished lengths go through the routine tests required by the referenced VDE, ICEA, IEC or NEK standard.
- Conductor resistance and insulation resistance on every length
- Voltage withstand (3.5 kV and higher) and partial-discharge measurement in the shielded HV laboratory
- Screen and pilot-core continuity checks for mining and reeling constructions

Mechanical and Ageing Tests
Samples from production are tested for the duty a mining, crane or submersible cable will actually see.
- Tensile strength and elongation of insulation and sheath before and after ageing
- Hot-set, ozone, oil-immersion and low-temperature bending tests
- Constant-temperature water bath for insulation resistance of submersible constructions

Flame Test and Final Inspection
Before packing, the cable is checked against the order and the flame-performance requirement of its standard.
- Single-cable vertical flame test to IEC 60332-1-2 where specified
- Metre marking, printing, drum length and appearance inspection
- Test report and packing list issued with every shipment
