Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about Automotive Powertrain Cable from our engineers.

01What is the difference between FHL2G and HLR2GCB2G?

FHL2G is an unshielded single-core silicone cable in 35 and 50 mm². HLR2GCB2G is a shielded silicone cable in 25 to 95 mm², with tinned copper screening of 85% minimum coverage plus ALU-PET foil with 20% minimum overlap. Both are rated 0.6/1kV, use Class 6 fine flexible copper, SiR silicone rubber and an orange sheath, and are listed for -40 °C to +180 °C.

02When should I use a shielded powertrain cable?

Use HLR2GCB2G where the approved powertrain design and system EMC concept call for a screened power path, for example between battery and inverter, or where capacitance, inductance and impedance are part of the review. Use FHL2G where the cable specification and vehicle design accept an unshielded construction. For screened routes, confirm the required copper coverage, foil overlap and bonding path.

03What temperature range do the cables cover?

Both models list an operating temperature of -40 °C to +180 °C for 3000 hours and short-term ageing at +205 °C for 240 hours. HLR2GCB2G also lists a conductor operating temperature of 225 °C. Current ratings are given at conductor temperatures of 20, 85, 125 and 140 °C, so confirm derating for ambient temperature, bundling, route and termination in the actual project.

04What current can the cables carry?

Current depends on cross-section, conductor temperature and installation. As listed, 35 mm² FHL2G carries 380 A at 20 °C and 260 A at 140 °C, and 50 mm² FHL2G 485 A and 340 A. HLR2GCB2G runs from 310 A (25 mm²) to 705 A (95 mm²) at 20 °C. Request the cable drawing and confirm derating, bundling, route and termination conditions for the project.

05Which standards do the cables reference?

FHL2G references LV 216-1 table A.1, VW N 108 558 and DIN EN 13602; HLR2GCB2G is manufactured to LV 216-2 table A2, C51 / 11.14, VW N 107 776 and BMW GS 95007-6-2. Both pages note RoHS and REACH compliance. Confirm which reference applies to the requested vehicle platform, and request test and certification documents for the exact model at RFQ stage.

06What should I send with an automotive powertrain cable RFQ?

The model (FHL2G or HLR2GCB2G), cross-section, core count and length; the vehicle platform and the reference that applies, such as LV 216-1, LV 216-2 or the VW or BMW standard; whether the route needs screening, with copper coverage, foil overlap and bonding path; the required current with ambient temperature, bundling, route and termination for derating; static or dynamic installation; and the documents you need.
