Product overview

UL 1659 is the UL wire style for 600 V, 250 °C lead wire. TEBAOFLEX builds it with a 0.5 mm (0.020 in) PTFE wall over stranded, soft-annealed, nickel-plated copper, in eight sizes from 24 AWG to 10 AWG with nominal overall diameters from 1.7 mm to 3.9 mm.

Choose UL 1659 for flexible leads and internal wiring in electronic equipment and appliances that run continuously at high temperature or meet chemicals and fluids. The soft-annealed strands keep the lead easy to bend and route, and the nickel plating protects the copper at 250 °C.

Application & Features

UL 1659 is used as lead wire and internal wiring in electronic and appliance equipment that runs continuously at up to 250 °C: leads from heating elements, motors and sensors to terminal blocks, and connections inside control and power electronics that sit close to hot parts. The PTFE wall stands up to the cleaning agents, oils and other fluids met in service.

Within the TEBAOFLEX PTFE range, compare UL 1570 for a 600 V, 250 °C wire with abrasion-resistant mineral-filled PTFE, UL 1815 for 300 V, 250 °C appliance and electronic wiring with silver-plated or nickel-plated copper, and UL 1199 where a 200 °C, 600 V rating with silver-plated copper is enough.

  • 250 °C continuousFor leads that run next to heating elements, windings and other hot components.
  • 600 V ratingCovers mains appliance circuits and higher-voltage electronic wiring.
  • Nickel-plated copperSoft-annealed strands with plating that protects the copper at high temperature.
  • Chemical resistancePTFE insulation that resists chemicals and fluids.

Construction

UL 1659 is a single-conductor lead wire with two layers: a stranded, soft-annealed, nickel-plated copper conductor and one PTFE wall.

  • Conductor: soft-annealed copper strands with nickel plating; the annealed temper keeps the lead flexible, and the plating protects the copper at 250 °C.
  • Stranding: 19 strands from 24 AWG to 12 AWG and 37 strands at 10 AWG, as listed in the size table.
  • Insulation: polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), 0.5 mm (0.020 in) thick on every size, with excellent chemical and fluid resistance.
  • Identification: a variety of insulation colours; the UL or CSA marking for your order is agreed with the quotation.

FAQ

What is UL 1659 wire?

UL 1659 is a UL wire style for 600 V, 250 °C lead wire. The TEBAOFLEX version has PTFE insulation over soft-annealed, nickel-plated stranded copper, in sizes from 24 AWG to 10 AWG, for electronic and appliance applications with continuous use up to 250 °C.

How is UL 1659 different from UL 1570 and UL 1815?

All three are 250 °C PTFE wires. UL 1659 has plain PTFE over nickel-plated copper and is rated 600 V. UL 1570 is also rated 600 V but adds a mineral filler to the PTFE for abrasion resistance, and UL 1815 is a 300 V wire with silver-plated or nickel-plated copper for appliance and electronic equipment wiring.

Is UL 1659 flexible enough for leads?

Yes. The conductor is soft-annealed copper with 19 strands from 24 AWG to 12 AWG and 37 strands at 10 AWG, so the lead bends and routes easily. Tell us the smallest bend and any repeated movement in your design, and our engineers confirm the construction.

What should I send for a quotation?
