UL 1198 is the UL wire style for 600 V, 150 °C single-conductor wire with PTFE insulation. TEBAOFLEX builds it with an extruded PTFE wall over stranded silver-plated copper, in 15 constructions from 28 AWG to 8 AWG: 7 or 19 strands in the small sizes, 37 strands at 10 AWG and 133 strands at 8 AWG. Overall diameters run from 1.47 mm to 5.85 mm.
Choose UL 1198 for internal wiring of electronic and electrical equipment where the conductor stays at or below 150 °C but the wire is exposed to oil, gasoline, chemicals, ozone, UV or humidity. The rated range of -60 °C to +150 °C and the resistance of the PTFE wall to temperature fluctuations suit equipment that cycles between cold standstill and warm running.

Application & Features
Selection overview
UL 1198 is used for point-to-point and harness wiring inside electronic and electrical equipment: control cabinets, motor control and drive enclosures, instruments, power supplies and machines, where the wiring passes warm components or may be splashed with oil, fuel or cleaning agents. The 600 V rating lets one wire type serve both control circuits and low-voltage power connections in the same enclosure.
Within the TEBAOFLEX PTFE range, compare UL 1199 for PTFE over silver-plated copper at 600 V with a 200 °C rating, UL 1164 for a 300 V, 150 °C PTFE wire, and UL 1331 for a 600 V, 150 °C hook-up wire with FEP insulation over tinned copper.
- 150 °C PTFE wallExtruded PTFE rated from -60 °C to +150 °C for wiring that runs warm inside equipment.
- Oil and fuel resistanceExcellent resistance to chemicals, oil and gasoline for wiring exposed to lubricants, fuels and cleaning agents.
- Silver-plated copperSilver plating protects the copper strands at the wire's rated temperature.
- Flame-test markingsVW-1 and FT1 flame-test designations, agreed per order.

Construction
Material and build-up
UL 1198 is a single-conductor wire with two layers: a stranded silver-plated copper conductor and one extruded PTFE wall.
- Conductor: stranded silver-plated copper, 7 or 19 strands in the small sizes, 37 strands at 10 AWG and 133 strands at 8 AWG; the silver plating protects the copper at the 150 °C rating.
- Insulation: extruded PTFE, a non-flammable fluoropolymer wall with excellent resistance to chemicals, oil, gasoline, ozone, UV and humidity.
- Routing: a minimum bending radius of 6 × the outer diameter applies when the wire is routed and fixed.
- Identification: insulation colour and UL or CSA surface marking are agreed with your order.
FAQ
Selection questions
What is UL 1198 wire?
UL 1198 is a UL wire style for single-conductor wire rated 600 V and 150 °C. The TEBAOFLEX version uses extruded PTFE insulation over stranded silver-plated copper, from 28 AWG to 8 AWG, for internal wiring of electronic and electrical equipment exposed to heat, oil, gasoline and chemicals.
How is UL 1198 different from UL 1199 and UL 1164?
UL 1199 is also a 600 V PTFE wire over silver-plated copper, but rated 200 °C instead of 150 °C. UL 1164 is a 150 °C PTFE wire with silver-plated copper rated 300 V. Choose UL 1198 when you need 600 V and the conductor stays at or below 150 °C.
What temperature range does UL 1198 cover?
The wire is rated from -60 °C to +150 °C. If the conductor can run hotter than 150 °C, for example next to heaters or lamps, move up to a 200 °C or 250 °C PTFE style.
What bending radius should I allow?
Allow at least 6 × the outer diameter. For a 14 AWG wire with a 2.92 mm overall diameter, that is about 17.5 mm.
What should I send for a quotation?
Send the UL style, AWG size and stranding, insulation colour, put-up length, quantity and any UL, CSA or flame-test marking you need. Our engineers confirm the construction on the datasheet issued with your quotation.

Quality Assurance
Testing at every stage in our own workshop and laboratory, from incoming copper to the packed drum.

Raw Material Inspection
Every batch of copper rod, rubber compound and reinforcing material is checked before it reaches the line.
- Copper: conductor resistance, elongation and surface condition on incoming rod and drawn wire
- EPR, CPE, PUR and silicone compounds: hardness, tensile strength, elongation and ageing samples from each mix
- Suppliers and batch numbers are recorded so every drum can be traced back to its materials

Manufacturing Process Control
Stranding, insulation extrusion, core assembly and sheathing run under recorded process parameters.
- Class 5/6 stranding with lay length and tension monitored for trailing and reeling flexibility
- Continuous-vulcanisation extrusion with wall thickness and spark tests logged on every length
- Operators sign off each stage before the cable moves to the next machine

Electrical Testing
Finished lengths go through the routine tests required by the referenced VDE, ICEA, IEC or NEK standard.
- Conductor resistance and insulation resistance on every length
- Voltage withstand (3.5 kV and higher) and partial-discharge measurement in the shielded HV laboratory
- Screen and pilot-core continuity checks for mining and reeling constructions

Mechanical and Ageing Tests
Samples from production are tested for the duty a mining, crane or submersible cable will actually see.
- Tensile strength and elongation of insulation and sheath before and after ageing
- Hot-set, ozone, oil-immersion and low-temperature bending tests
- Constant-temperature water bath for insulation resistance of submersible constructions

Flame Test and Final Inspection
Before packing, the cable is checked against the order and the flame-performance requirement of its standard.
- Single-cable vertical flame test to IEC 60332-1-2 where specified
- Metre marking, printing, drum length and appearance inspection
- Test report and packing list issued with every shipment
