MGM 112 Type E2, Type E4 and Type E5 are the unscreened, steel-armoured power cables of the MGM 112 specification of the Turkish Hard Coal Enterprises MGM mining cable series. The cores are EPR insulated tinned Class 5 copper with no individual screen. In Type E4 and E5 they are laid around a central cradle without touching each other; the two cores of Type E2 are laid without a cradle. A rubber bedding, galvanized steel pliable armour and a heavy-duty chloroprene sheath complete the cable.
The specified duty is power supply for excavating and crushing machines and equipment, in deep mines where explosive gases and dust can accumulate and on the surface. Type E4 is the main range, from 4×2.5 mm² to 4×150 mm² and 28 A to 320 A, so the same construction covers anything from a small pump to the main feed of a crusher or conveyor drive. Type E2 is a single 2×4 mm² size and Type E5 runs from 5×4 to 5×16 mm².

Application & Features
Selection overview
Type E cables are the choice when the circuit needs mechanical protection but not a screen around every core. Typical runs are feeds from a mine substation or distribution box to crushers, conveyor drives, pumps and fans, laid along the roadway or in a surface plant where the steel armour protects against rock falls, vehicles and crushing. Because the cores are not screened, earth-fault protection has to rely on the armour or a dedicated core, so check your protection scheme before choosing an unscreened type.
The core count follows the circuit. Type E4 carries three phases plus a fourth conductor, Type E5 adds a fifth conductor for installations that want a separate protective core alongside the four, and Type E2 serves two-wire auxiliary or control feeds. The larger E4 sizes, from 4×35 mm² up, are heavy cables of 5650 to 18500 kg/km and 561 to 953 mm minimum bending radius, so plan drum sizes and pulling equipment before delivery.
- Unscreened, cradle-separated coresCores in E4 and E5 sit around a cradle without contact; lighter and simpler than an individually screened cable.
- Steel pliable armourGalvanized steel armour from 7/0.45 to 7/1.25 mm over a rubber bedding for roadway and plant protection.
- Wide E4 size rangeTwelve E4 sizes from 4×2.5 to 4×150 mm², rated 28 to 320 A at 25 °C.
- 3 kV test voltageTested at 3 kV for 660/1100 V service in deep mines and on the surface; approval is quoted per order.

Construction
Material and build-up
Type E cables have no screen on the cores. In Type E4 and E5 the EPR cores are spaced around a central cradle so they do not touch; Type E2 is laid up without a cradle. The core bundle is bedded, armoured with galvanized steel and sheathed in chloroprene.
- Conductor: stranded tinned copper to IEC 60228 Class 5, from 2.5 mm² (50/0.25 mm) to 150 mm² (756/0.50 mm).
- Insulation: EPR, 1.0 mm on Type E2 and 1.4 to 2.3 mm on Types E4 and E5 depending on size.
- Lay-up: Types E4 and E5: cores laid around a cradle without contact; Type E2: two cores laid up without a cradle. No core screens.
- Bedding: rubber-based bedding compound, 2.0 to 5.0 mm radial depending on size.
- Armour: galvanized steel pliable armour, from 7/0.45 mm on the smallest sizes to 7/1.25 mm on 4×120 and 4×150 mm².
- Outer sheath: heavy-duty chloroprene compound, 2.5 to 7.3 mm radial depending on size.
FAQ
Selection questions
What are MGM 112 Type E2, E4 and E5, and how do they differ from Types 62, 63 and 64?
They are the unscreened armoured power cables of the MGM 112 specification. The number after the E gives the core count: two, four or five. Unlike MGM 112 Type 62, 63 and 64, which put a braid screen on every 4 mm² core, the E types have no core screens and are tested at 3 kV instead of 2.5 kV. The E4 range also goes far larger, up to 4×150 mm² and 320 A, while Types 62 to 64 stop at 4 mm².
When should I choose an unscreened E type over a screened MGM 112 cable?
Choose an E type for fixed or semi-fixed feeds where the protection scheme does not need an earthed screen around each conductor, for example substation-to-crusher or conveyor drive runs protected by the armour. Where the mine requires individually screened phase cores for earth-leakage protection, use a screened type such as MGM 112 Type 201 and 211 or the Types 62 to 64.
Which details are needed for a quotation?
Send the type (E2, E4 or E5) and size, the quantity in metres and the drum lengths, the supply voltage and load current, whether you need the standard galvanized steel armour, any sheath marking or colour requirement, and the mine authority whose approval or test report you need. For E4 sizes from 4×35 mm² up, tell us your maximum drum weight and diameter.
How does an MGM 112 Type E4 compare with an MGM 115 cable?
MGM 112 Type E4 is steel-armoured and has unscreened cores, so it suits cable laid along the roadway or in a plant. The MGM 115 cables, such as MGM 115 Type 11, have screened phase cores and no armour, which keeps them flexible for trailing behind moving machines. Both families are listed in the MGM mining cable category.

Quality Assurance
Testing at every stage in our own workshop and laboratory, from incoming copper to the packed drum.

Raw Material Inspection
Every batch of copper rod, rubber compound and reinforcing material is checked before it reaches the line.
- Copper: conductor resistance, elongation and surface condition on incoming rod and drawn wire
- EPR, CPE, PUR and silicone compounds: hardness, tensile strength, elongation and ageing samples from each mix
- Suppliers and batch numbers are recorded so every drum can be traced back to its materials

Manufacturing Process Control
Stranding, insulation extrusion, core assembly and sheathing run under recorded process parameters.
- Class 5/6 stranding with lay length and tension monitored for trailing and reeling flexibility
- Continuous-vulcanisation extrusion with wall thickness and spark tests logged on every length
- Operators sign off each stage before the cable moves to the next machine

Electrical Testing
Finished lengths go through the routine tests required by the referenced VDE, ICEA, IEC or NEK standard.
- Conductor resistance and insulation resistance on every length
- Voltage withstand (3.5 kV and higher) and partial-discharge measurement in the shielded HV laboratory
- Screen and pilot-core continuity checks for mining and reeling constructions

Mechanical and Ageing Tests
Samples from production are tested for the duty a mining, crane or submersible cable will actually see.
- Tensile strength and elongation of insulation and sheath before and after ageing
- Hot-set, ozone, oil-immersion and low-temperature bending tests
- Constant-temperature water bath for insulation resistance of submersible constructions

Flame Test and Final Inspection
Before packing, the cable is checked against the order and the flame-performance requirement of its standard.
- Single-cable vertical flame test to IEC 60332-1-2 where specified
- Metre marking, printing, drum length and appearance inspection
- Test report and packing list issued with every shipment
