S1BNH2-F is a flat, unscreened rubber cable for 0.6/1 kV that feeds submersible motors and pumps. Three cores of tinned Class 5 copper with EPR insulation lie side by side under a water-resistant EM2 rubber sheath, black or blue, and the cable may be permanently immersed in fresh and salt water down to 300 m.
The flat profile is the main reason to choose it: it needs less room than a round cable of the same size, so it fits between a pump riser and a narrow well casing and lies flat against pipes and walls. The rubber compound resists ozone, UV, sunlight and weather, so the same cable can continue from the well head to a control panel outdoors.

Application & Features
Selection overview
Most S1BNH2-F cable goes into wells. A well pump hangs on its riser pipe, and the cable is strapped to the riser all the way from the motor to the well head, where it continues to the control panel. The flat shape passes through the narrow gap between riser and casing, the Class 5 conductor tolerates the bending at the well head each time the pump is pulled for service, and the sheath is made for permanent immersion. The same duty appears in drinking water supply, sewage treatment and wastewater pumping, in water treatment circulation and mixing equipment, in cooling and process water systems and in mine dewatering.
Away from wells, the cable powers seawater pumps, aquaculture systems and coastal facilities, swimming pool lights and filters, fountains and aquariums. As a flexible rubber cable it is also used on movable machines, conveyors and hoisting equipment that bend the cable repeatedly, and in humid workshops, basements, ports and construction sites where ozone and UV attack ordinary sheaths. Do not let the cable carry the pump: the tensile limit applies to installation pulls, so the pump should hang from its riser pipe or a rope.

Construction
Material and build-up
S1BNH2-F is a flat cable. The insulated cores lie side by side in one plane inside a common rubber sheath, so the cable bends easily across its flat face, and its bending radius is set by the cable height H rather than its width.
- Conductor: tinned copper, Class 5 flexible stranding, from 4 mm² to 185 mm² per core. Tinning protects the wires in permanently wet service.
- Insulation: EPR compound rubber 3GI3, quality to VDE 0207 part 20, for a 90 °C conductor temperature; water, heat and oil resistant.
- Core identification: to HD 308; the 3G constructions include a green/yellow protective core.
- Outer sheath: water-resistant EM2 rubber compound to EN 50363-2-1, resistant to ozone, UV, sunlight and weather; black or blue.
FAQ
Selection questions
What does S1BNH2-F mean?
The letters follow the European cable code: B stands for EPR insulation, N for a polychloroprene-type rubber sheath (here an EM2 compound to EN 50363-2-1), H2 for a flat cable whose cores cannot be separated, and F for a flexible Class 5 conductor. The cable is unscreened and rated 0.6/1 kV.
How do I read the tensile load column?
The maximum tensile load is 15 N/mm² of conductor cross-section, so the permitted pull grows with size, from 180 N for 3G4 to 8325 N for 3G185. These values apply to pulling the cable during installation, not to hanging the pump on it. Hang the pump from its riser pipe or a rope and strap the cable to the riser so the cable never carries the pump weight.
Flat or round submersible cable: which one?
Choose a flat cable when the gap between pump riser and well casing is narrow or when the cable must lie flat along a pipe or wall; S1BNH2-F bends across its flat face with a radius of 3 × H up to 12 mm cable height and 4 × H above that. Choose a round cable when it must bend in every direction or when you need pilot cores, as in ELCOSUB (N)TMH3S P2. Other designs are in the submersible pump cable category.
Which details are needed for a quotation?
Send the cores and cross-section (for example 3G16), the length per pump and number of pumps, the motor power and voltage, the water type (drinking water, sewage or seawater) and installation depth, the sheath colour (black or blue) and any drinking-water approval or marking you need. Our engineers confirm the construction and return the datasheet with the quotation.

Quality Assurance
Testing at every stage in our own workshop and laboratory, from incoming copper to the packed drum.

Raw Material Inspection
Every batch of copper rod, rubber compound and reinforcing material is checked before it reaches the line.
- Copper: conductor resistance, elongation and surface condition on incoming rod and drawn wire
- EPR, CPE, PUR and silicone compounds: hardness, tensile strength, elongation and ageing samples from each mix
- Suppliers and batch numbers are recorded so every drum can be traced back to its materials

Manufacturing Process Control
Stranding, insulation extrusion, core assembly and sheathing run under recorded process parameters.
- Class 5/6 stranding with lay length and tension monitored for trailing and reeling flexibility
- Continuous-vulcanisation extrusion with wall thickness and spark tests logged on every length
- Operators sign off each stage before the cable moves to the next machine

Electrical Testing
Finished lengths go through the routine tests required by the referenced VDE, ICEA, IEC or NEK standard.
- Conductor resistance and insulation resistance on every length
- Voltage withstand (3.5 kV and higher) and partial-discharge measurement in the shielded HV laboratory
- Screen and pilot-core continuity checks for mining and reeling constructions

Mechanical and Ageing Tests
Samples from production are tested for the duty a mining, crane or submersible cable will actually see.
- Tensile strength and elongation of insulation and sheath before and after ageing
- Hot-set, ozone, oil-immersion and low-temperature bending tests
- Constant-temperature water bath for insulation resistance of submersible constructions

Flame Test and Final Inspection
Before packing, the cable is checked against the order and the flame-performance requirement of its standard.
- Single-cable vertical flame test to IEC 60332-1-2 where specified
- Metre marking, printing, drum length and appearance inspection
- Test report and packing list issued with every shipment
