Product overview

MGM 112 Type 62, Type 63 and Type 64 are one construction built in three core counts: two, three and four cores of 4 mm² tinned copper, each core EPR insulated and wrapped in its own tinned copper and nylon braid screen. The cores are laid up in contact, bedded in rubber compound, covered with galvanized steel pliable armour and finished with a heavy-duty chloroprene sheath. They are made to the MGM 112 specification of the Turkish Hard Coal Enterprises MGM mining cable series.

The specified duty is power supply for excavating and crushing machines and equipment, in deep mines where explosive gases and dust can accumulate and on the surface. At 660/1100 V and 28 A per core, the three types serve the smaller motors and auxiliary drives around a face or crusher, where every core needs a screen and the cable also needs steel armour against crushing and impact.

Application & Features

The type number tells you the circuit. Type 62 (2×4 mm²) suits a single-phase or DC control or auxiliary feed, Type 63 (3×4 mm²) a three-phase motor without a separate neutral, and Type 64 (4×4 mm²) a three-phase circuit that needs a fourth insulated conductor. Because every core carries its own braid screen, an insulation fault on any conductor goes to earthed metal first, which is what earth-leakage protection on a mine distribution system relies on.

Typical loads are pumps, fans, small crushers, feeders and control panels at the face, in the roadway or at a surface crushing plant. The galvanized steel armour over the bedding protects the screened cores where the cable is laid along the floor or ribs and may be struck by falling rock or run over, and the chloroprene sheath resists abrasion and moisture. For larger machines needing 10 mm² and above, the MGM 112 armoured family continues with other core arrangements.

  • Screen on every coreTinned copper and nylon braid over each of the 2, 3 or 4 cores gives each conductor its own earthed barrier.
  • Steel pliable armourGalvanized steel armour, 7/0.45 mm, over a rubber bedding for mechanical protection in the roadway.
  • One size, three core countsAll three types use 4 mm² 56/0.30 mm tinned Class 5 copper; pick the type by the number of conductors.
  • Deep-mine and surface dutySpecified for mines where explosive gases and dust can accumulate, and for surface use; approval is quoted per order.

Construction

Type 62, 63 and 64 share every layer and differ only in the number of screened cores. Two, three or four EPR cores, each with its own braid screen, are laid up in contact, then bedded, armoured with galvanized steel and sheathed in chloroprene.

  • Conductor: 4 mm² stranded tinned copper, 56 wires of 0.30 mm, IEC 60228 Class 5, 2.60 mm nominal diameter.
  • Insulation: EPR, 1.0 mm thick on each core.
  • Core screen: tinned copper and nylon braid over each insulated core; in parallel the screens measure 5.5, 3.9 and 2.8 Ω/km for Types 62, 63 and 64.
  • Lay-up: the individually screened cores are laid up in contact with each other, so the screens touch along the length.
  • Bedding: rubber-based bedding compound, 2.0 mm radial, giving an inner sheath diameter of 16.2 to 20.7 mm depending on type.
  • Armour: galvanized steel pliable armour, 7/0.45 mm, which also provides a return path of 4.16 to 4.91 Ω/km.
  • Outer sheath: heavy-duty chloroprene compound, 2.5 mm radial, for abrasion and moisture resistance.

FAQ

What are MGM 112 Type 62, 63 and 64, and how do they differ?

They are the small-section, individually screened, steel-armoured cables in the MGM 112 specification. The only difference between them is the core count: Type 62 has two cores, Type 63 three and Type 64 four, all 4 mm². Every core has its own tinned copper and nylon braid screen. The MGM 112 Type E2, E4 and E5 cables use the same armour and sheath but have no core screens, and the MGM 112 Type 201 and 211 cables carry the screened, armoured design up to 3×120 mm² for larger machines.

Which type should I choose for my circuit?

Count the insulated conductors the load needs. A two-wire auxiliary or control feed takes Type 62, a three-phase motor without neutral takes Type 63, and a circuit that needs a fourth insulated conductor takes Type 64. At 4 mm² all three are rated 28 A at 25 °C; if the load or run length is higher, check the voltage drop in the table or move to a larger MGM 112 size.

Which details are needed for a quotation?

Send the type (62, 63 or 64), the quantity in metres and the drum lengths, the supply voltage and load current, whether you need the standard galvanized steel armour, any sheath marking or colour requirement, and the mine authority whose approval or test report you need. Our engineers confirm the construction and return the datasheet with the quotation.

How does Type 63 compare with the MGM 115 Type 11 cable?

Both are 660/1100 V cables with braid-screened EPR cores and a chloroprene sheath. Type 63 is steel-armoured with three screened 4 mm² cores and is suited to cable laid along the roadway. MGM 115 Type 11 has three screened 16 mm² phase cores plus an unscreened 16 mm² pilot conductor and no armour, so it is the choice when the cable must follow a moving machine. Both are listed in the MGM mining cable category.
