MGM 109 Types 1012, 1013 and 1014 are the low-voltage, single-armoured members of the MGM 109 armoured cable family: 600/1000 V PVC-insulated power cables with two (1012), three (1013) or four (1014) unscreened cores under one layer of galvanised steel wire armour, built to the MGM 109 specification of the Turkish Hard Coal Enterprises MGM mining cable series.
They are fixed-installation cables for supplying machines and equipment in deep mines where explosive gases and dust may accumulate and in surface installations. With sizes up to 95 mm² they cover most of a mine's 1 kV distribution, from lighting and control circuits to conveyor drives, pumps and gate-end panels.

Application & Features
Selection overview
Most of the 1 kV cable in an underground coal mine runs horizontally: along the gate roads that serve a longwall or room-and-pillar panel, from the section transformer to the conveyor drives, pumps, fans and switch panels. There the cable is hung on hangers or laid in trays and stays put for the life of the panel. A single layer of galvanised steel wire is enough to protect it against falling rock and knocks, and it keeps the cable lighter and easier to bend round roadway junctions than a double-armoured design.
The three core counts let you match the circuit. Type 1012 (two cores) serves single-phase lighting and control supplies, Type 1013 (three cores) is the standard three-phase motor feeder with the armour as earth path, and Type 1014 (four cores) adds a neutral or an earth core. For vertical shaft runs or routes with heavy impact risk, move to the double-armoured Type 1023/1024.
- 1 kV roadway distributionSingle galvanised steel wire armour for horizontal runs on hangers or in trays at 600/1000 V.
- Two, three or four coresType 1012 for single-phase and control, Type 1013 for three-phase motors, Type 1014 with a fourth core.
- Gassy and dusty workingsSpecified for deep mines where explosive gases and dust may accumulate, and for surface plant; mine approval is quoted per order.
- Up to 95 mm²Three- and four-core sizes from 1.5 to 95 mm²; 18 to 250 A at 25 °C on the four-core type.

Construction
Material and build-up
Types 1012, 1013 and 1014 are round cables. Two, three or four PVC-insulated cores are laid up in contact with each other, bedded in PVC compound and covered by a single layer of galvanised steel wire and a special PVC outer sheath. There is no core screen.
- Conductor: electrolytic copper, IEC 60228 Class 1 or 2; 1.5 to 16 mm² on Type 1012, 1.5 to 95 mm² on Types 1013 and 1014.
- Insulation: PVC, 0.8 mm on small sizes rising to 1.6 mm on 95 mm².
- Lay-up: two, three or four unscreened cores laid up in contact with each other.
- Bedding: PVC-based bedding compound, 0.8 to 1.2 mm.
- Armour: one layer of galvanised steel wire, 0.9 to 2.0 mm wire depending on size, for mechanical protection and an earth return path; a galvanised steel tape separator is optional.
- Outer sheath: special PVC compound, 1.3 to 2.2 mm depending on size.
FAQ
Selection questions
What are MGM 109 Types 1012, 1013 and 1014 and how do they differ from the other MGM 109 types?
They are the 600/1000 V single-armoured types in the MGM 109 armoured cable specification of the Turkish Hard Coal Enterprises MGM series, with two, three and four cores. Type 1023/1024 is the same voltage with two armour layers. For 1900/3300 V circuits the single-armoured type is Type 3013, and the double-armoured types are the unscreened Type 3023 and the screened Type 3123.
Which core count should I choose?
Type 1012 (two cores) for single-phase lighting, control and signalling supplies; Type 1013 (three cores) for three-phase motors with the armour used as the earth path; Type 1014 (four cores) where a neutral or a separate earth core is required.
Single or double armour at 1 kV?
Single armour is the normal choice for horizontal roadway and gate-road runs on hangers or in trays. Use the double-armoured Type 1023/1024 for shafts, steep inclines or routes with heavy impact risk, noting that it is offered only up to 10 mm².
Which details are needed for a quotation?
Send the type (1012, 1013 or 1014), conductor size, drum length and total length, the installation route, whether the optional galvanised steel tape separator is needed, sheath marking, and the mine authority whose approval or test reports you need.

Quality Assurance
Testing at every stage in our own workshop and laboratory, from incoming copper to the packed drum.

Raw Material Inspection
Every batch of copper rod, rubber compound and reinforcing material is checked before it reaches the line.
- Copper: conductor resistance, elongation and surface condition on incoming rod and drawn wire
- EPR, CPE, PUR and silicone compounds: hardness, tensile strength, elongation and ageing samples from each mix
- Suppliers and batch numbers are recorded so every drum can be traced back to its materials

Manufacturing Process Control
Stranding, insulation extrusion, core assembly and sheathing run under recorded process parameters.
- Class 5/6 stranding with lay length and tension monitored for trailing and reeling flexibility
- Continuous-vulcanisation extrusion with wall thickness and spark tests logged on every length
- Operators sign off each stage before the cable moves to the next machine

Electrical Testing
Finished lengths go through the routine tests required by the referenced VDE, ICEA, IEC or NEK standard.
- Conductor resistance and insulation resistance on every length
- Voltage withstand (3.5 kV and higher) and partial-discharge measurement in the shielded HV laboratory
- Screen and pilot-core continuity checks for mining and reeling constructions

Mechanical and Ageing Tests
Samples from production are tested for the duty a mining, crane or submersible cable will actually see.
- Tensile strength and elongation of insulation and sheath before and after ageing
- Hot-set, ozone, oil-immersion and low-temperature bending tests
- Constant-temperature water bath for insulation resistance of submersible constructions

Flame Test and Final Inspection
Before packing, the cable is checked against the order and the flame-performance requirement of its standard.
- Single-cable vertical flame test to IEC 60332-1-2 where specified
- Metre marking, printing, drum length and appearance inspection
- Test report and packing list issued with every shipment
