MGM 111 Type 320 and Type 321 are 1900/3300 V armoured power cables for excavating and crushing machines. They are built to the MGM 111 specification of the Turkish Hard Coal Enterprises MGM mining cable series and share one datasheet: Type 320 has three phase cores plus an uninsulated earth core, Type 321 has four insulated cores of equal size.
Flexible Class 5 tinned copper, 3.0 mm EPR insulation with semiconducting layers, a tinned copper and nylon braided screen over the insulated cores, a rubber bedding, galvanized steel armour and a heavy-duty chloroprene sheath make the cable suitable for deep mines where explosive gases and dust can accumulate, and for surface plant.

Application & Features
Selection overview
Cutting, loading and crushing machines in a coal mine draw large currents, and running them at 3.3 kV instead of 1.1 kV cuts the current and the voltage drop over long roadway runs. MGM 111 Type 320 and 321 carry that 3.3 kV supply from the district substation or gate-end switchgear to heavy equipment such as continuous miners, roadheaders, crushers and the drives of face and gate conveyors, and to crushing plant on the surface.
Each insulated core has its own braided screen, so an insulation fault goes to earth through the screen and trips the protection before it can reach the outside of the cable. The galvanized steel armour then protects the cable against rock falls and impact along the roadway, while the chloroprene sheath resists abrasion, oil and water. Type 320 is chosen where the protective conductor is the bare earth core together with the three screens; Type 321 where four insulated cores of equal size are required.
- 3.3 kV machine supplyFor excavating and crushing machines and equipment underground and on the surface.
- Screened coresTinned copper and nylon braid over each insulated core, with semiconducting layers around the EPR.
- Armoured and rubber sheathedGalvanized steel armour under a heavy-duty chloroprene sheath for roadway impact and abrasion.
- Water-blocking optionGalvanized steel tape or water-blocking tape can be added as an optional separator.

Selection note: current ratings are given for 25 °C ambient; derate for higher roadway temperatures, grouping or cable left on the drum. Before ordering, ask our engineers to confirm the conductor operating temperature, the sheath colour, the minimum bending radius for moving service, the Type 321 screen resistance and which core of Type 321 is used as the earth.

Construction
Material and build-up
MGM 111 Type 320 and 321 are round screened cables. Each phase core is insulated with EPR between semiconducting layers and wrapped in its own tinned copper and nylon braid. The cores are laid up in contact, with the bare earth core in Type 320, then covered by a rubber bedding, galvanized steel armour and a chloroprene sheath.
- Conductor: stranded tinned copper, IEC 60228 Class 5, from 126/0.40 mm (16 mm²) to 756/0.50 mm (150 mm²).
- Insulation: EPR, 3.0 mm, with semiconducting layers around it to even out the electric field at 3.3 kV.
- Core screen: tinned copper / nylon braid over each insulated core; in Type 320 the three screens and the bare earth core together form the protective conductor.
- Earth core (Type 320): uninsulated tinned copper, 16 to 70 mm², laid in contact with the screened phase cores.
- Bedding: rubber-based bedding compound, 2.5 to 5.0 mm radial thickness.
- Optional separator: galvanized steel tape or water-blocking tape on request.
- Armour: galvanized steel pliable armour, 7/0.7 mm to 7/1.25 mm strands.
- Outer sheath: heavy-duty chloroprene compound, 4.0 to 7.6 mm radial thickness.
FAQ
Selection questions
What is the MGM 111 Type 320/321 cable?
It is the 3.3 kV screened and armoured rubber cable of MGM 111, part of the MGM series issued by the Turkish Hard Coal Enterprises for its mines. Type 320 has three screened phase cores and a bare earth core; Type 321 has four equal insulated cores. The same MGM 111 family also includes MGM 111 Type 21, an unscreened 600/1000 V cable for the same machines at low voltage.
Is MGM 111 Type 321 the same as MGM 112 Type 321?
No. They share a type number but come from different specifications. MGM 111 Type 321 is the screened four-core cable on this page. MGM 112 Type 321 is a separate 1900/3300 V cable with unscreened cores, and MGM 112 Type 331 is its screened counterpart. Always quote the specification number together with the type number on an order.
How do I select a size?
Start from the machine current and the length of the run. The datasheet gives 85 A for 16 mm² up to 295 A for 120 mm² (Type 320) and 345 A for 150 mm² (Type 321) at 25 °C. Check the voltage drop over the route length with the phase conductor resistance, from 1.24 Ω/km at 16 mm² to 0.124 Ω/km at 150 mm², and derate for warmer roadways. Our engineers can check the calculation with you.
Which details are needed for a quotation?
Send the type (320 or 321), the size, the length per drum and total quantity, whether you need the optional steel tape or water-blocking tape, any sheath marking requirement, and the mine authority whose approval or test report you need to see. We return the confirmed datasheet with the quotation.
How does it compare with the lower-voltage MGM 115 and MGM 112 cables?
The 660/1100 V cables such as MGM 115 Type 11 carry the same machine loads at a third of the voltage, so they need larger conductors and suffer more voltage drop on long runs. MGM 111 Type 320/321 is the choice when the district supply is 3.3 kV. See the MGM mining cable category for the whole series.

Quality Assurance
Testing at every stage in our own workshop and laboratory, from incoming copper to the packed drum.

Raw Material Inspection
Every batch of copper rod, rubber compound and reinforcing material is checked before it reaches the line.
- Copper: conductor resistance, elongation and surface condition on incoming rod and drawn wire
- EPR, CPE, PUR and silicone compounds: hardness, tensile strength, elongation and ageing samples from each mix
- Suppliers and batch numbers are recorded so every drum can be traced back to its materials

Manufacturing Process Control
Stranding, insulation extrusion, core assembly and sheathing run under recorded process parameters.
- Class 5/6 stranding with lay length and tension monitored for trailing and reeling flexibility
- Continuous-vulcanisation extrusion with wall thickness and spark tests logged on every length
- Operators sign off each stage before the cable moves to the next machine

Electrical Testing
Finished lengths go through the routine tests required by the referenced VDE, ICEA, IEC or NEK standard.
- Conductor resistance and insulation resistance on every length
- Voltage withstand (3.5 kV and higher) and partial-discharge measurement in the shielded HV laboratory
- Screen and pilot-core continuity checks for mining and reeling constructions

Mechanical and Ageing Tests
Samples from production are tested for the duty a mining, crane or submersible cable will actually see.
- Tensile strength and elongation of insulation and sheath before and after ageing
- Hot-set, ozone, oil-immersion and low-temperature bending tests
- Constant-temperature water bath for insulation resistance of submersible constructions

Flame Test and Final Inspection
Before packing, the cable is checked against the order and the flame-performance requirement of its standard.
- Single-cable vertical flame test to IEC 60332-1-2 where specified
- Metre marking, printing, drum length and appearance inspection
- Test report and packing list issued with every shipment
