Product overview

MGM 112 Type 201 and Type 211 are the low-voltage, individually screened members of the MGM 112 family: 660/1100 V armoured rubber cables for feeding mobile and semi-mobile mining machines. They are built to the MGM 112 specification of the Turkish Hard Coal Enterprises MGM mining cable series. Type 201 has three screened phase cores only; Type 211 adds a fourth, unscreened earth core of reduced or equal size.

Each phase core has tinned Class 5 copper, EPR insulation and a tinned copper / nylon braided screen, so a phase-to-screen fault is detected before it can reach the neighbouring phase. The cores are laid up in contact, bedded in a rubber compound, armoured with galvanized pliable steel and sheathed in heavy-duty chloroprene for deep mines where explosive gases and dust can accumulate, and for surface plant.

Application & Features

The specified duty is power supply for excavating and crushing machines and equipment. In practice that covers feeder cables to crushers and breakers at the tip or the preparation plant, supply cables to loaders, drill rigs and pumps in the roadway, and the links between a section transformer or gate-end box and the machine that moves with the face. Galvanized steel pliable armour protects the cable where it is dragged, stepped on or hit by falling rock, while still allowing it to be rerouted when the equipment moves.

Choose between the two versions by how your protection is earthed. Type 201 has no separate earth core, so the parallel resistance of the three braided screens (listed in the table) and the armour carry the earth-fault current. Type 211 adds a dedicated insulated earth conductor, from 1×10 mm² up to 1×70 mm², which gives a lower-resistance protective conductor independent of the armour. For 1900/3300 V circuits use the screened Type 331 instead.

  • Excavating and crushing plantSupply cable for crushers, loaders, drills and other 660/1100 V mining machines, underground or on surface.
  • Individually screened phasesTinned copper / nylon braid on each phase core for earth-fault detection and touch safety.
  • With or without earth coreType 201 relies on screens and armour; Type 211 adds a separate unscreened earth core.

Construction

MGM 112 Type 201 and Type 211 are round cables. The screened phase cores (plus the unscreened earth core on Type 211) are laid up in contact with each other, covered by a rubber bedding, armoured with galvanized steel pliable wires and finished with a heavy-duty chloroprene sheath.

  • Conductor: stranded tinned copper, IEC 60228 Class 5, from 80/0.40 mm (10 mm²) to 608/0.50 mm (120 mm²). Tinning protects the fine wires in humid mine air.
  • Insulation: EPR on every core, 1.5 to 2.2 mm thick on the phase cores depending on size.
  • Phase screens: tinned copper / nylon braid over each phase core; the three screens together give 0.50 to 1.61 Ω/km in parallel.
  • Earth core (Type 211 only): an unscreened EPR-insulated tinned copper earth conductor, 1×10 to 1×70 mm², laid in contact with the phase cores.
  • Bedding: rubber-based bedding compound, 2.5 to 5.0 mm radial, that rounds the layup and cushions the armour.
  • Armour: galvanized steel pliable armour, 7/0.71 mm up to 7/1.25 mm strand size, for crush and impact protection.
  • Outer sheath: heavy-duty chloroprene compound, 3.8 to 6.4 mm radial, for abrasion and oil exposure in the roadway.

FAQ

What is the difference between MGM 112 Type 201 and Type 211?

Both are 660/1100 V cables with three individually screened phase cores, EPR insulation, steel armour and a chloroprene sheath. Type 201 has only the three phase cores, so earth-fault current returns through the screens and armour. Type 211 adds a separate unscreened earth core (for example 3×25+16 or 3×95+70 mm²), which makes it a little larger and heavier for the same phase size. Within the MGM 112 family, the 1900/3300 V equivalents are the screened MGM 112 Type 331 and the unscreened MGM 112 Type 321.

Which size do I need for a crusher or loader feeder?

Start from the full-load current of the machine and compare it with the current rating at 25 °C in the tables (63 A for 3×10 mm² up to 295 A for 3×120 mm²), then check voltage drop over the cable length using the phase conductor resistance. If the cable runs on a drum, in high ambient temperature or grouped with other cables, ask us for derating before you fix the size.

Which details are needed for a quotation?

Send the type (201 or 211), the core size such as 3×50+35 mm², the length per drum and total quantity, the operating voltage, any sheath marking or colour requirement, and the mine authority whose approval or test report you need. Our engineers confirm the construction and return the approved datasheet with the quotation.

How does MGM 112 Type 211 compare with MGM 115 and other low-voltage MGM 112 types?

Type 211 is an armoured cable for machines that move occasionally. MGM 115 Type 11 uses a similar screened 3+1 layout for trailing duty, and MGM 112 Type 62, 63 and 64 cover two- to four-core individually screened designs. For unscreened low-voltage armoured cables see MGM 112 Type E2, E4 and E5 or browse the MGM mining cable category.

Quality Assurance

Testing at every stage in our own workshop and laboratory, from incoming copper to the packed drum.

Bare copper wire bobbins inspected before stranding at the TEBAOFLEX factory

Raw Material Inspection

Every batch of copper rod, rubber compound and reinforcing material is checked before it reaches the line.

  • Copper: conductor resistance, elongation and surface condition on incoming rod and drawn wire
  • EPR, CPE, PUR and silicone compounds: hardness, tensile strength, elongation and ageing samples from each mix
  • Suppliers and batch numbers are recorded so every drum can be traced back to its materials

Manufacturing Process Control

Stranding, insulation extrusion, core assembly and sheathing run under recorded process parameters.

  • Class 5/6 stranding with lay length and tension monitored for trailing and reeling flexibility
  • Continuous-vulcanisation extrusion with wall thickness and spark tests logged on every length
  • Operators sign off each stage before the cable moves to the next machine

Electrical Testing

Finished lengths go through the routine tests required by the referenced VDE, ICEA, IEC or NEK standard.

  • Conductor resistance and insulation resistance on every length
  • Voltage withstand (3.5 kV and higher) and partial-discharge measurement in the shielded HV laboratory
  • Screen and pilot-core continuity checks for mining and reeling constructions
Tensile testing machine for conductor and sheath samples

Mechanical and Ageing Tests

Samples from production are tested for the duty a mining, crane or submersible cable will actually see.

  • Tensile strength and elongation of insulation and sheath before and after ageing
  • Hot-set, ozone, oil-immersion and low-temperature bending tests
  • Constant-temperature water bath for insulation resistance of submersible constructions
Single-cable vertical flame test chamber

Flame Test and Final Inspection

Before packing, the cable is checked against the order and the flame-performance requirement of its standard.

  • Single-cable vertical flame test to IEC 60332-1-2 where specified
  • Metre marking, printing, drum length and appearance inspection
  • Test report and packing list issued with every shipment
