MGM 118 Type 6110 is a three-core 3800/6600 V power cable in which every PVC insulated core carries its own copper-backed tape screen. The screened cores are laid up under a PVC-based bedding, galvanized steel pliable armour and a special PVC outer sheath. It is made to the MGM 118 specification of the Turkish Hard Coal Enterprises MGM mining cable series.
The individual screens are what set Type 6110 apart from Types 6010 and 6020. Each core is enclosed in an earthed metallic layer, so an insulation fault goes to earth through the screen and can be picked up by earth-leakage protection. The cable is for fixed installation to machines and equipment in deep mines where explosive gases and dust can accumulate, and on the surface.

Application & Features
Selection overview
Type 6110 suits 6.6 kV fixed feeders where the protection scheme or the mine's rules call for a screened cable: feeders to substations and transformers near the working district, supplies to large motors and drives, and runs in roadways where an insulation fault must be cleared quickly and safely. The screen around each core keeps the electric field inside the core and gives a defined earth path for fault current.
Mechanically it matches the single-armoured Type 6010: the same armour resistance (1.92 Ω/km at 3×16 down to 0.165 Ω/km at 3×185) and the same outer sheath thickness. The screens add about 1 mm to the core bundle and a little weight, so at 3×95 mm² the cable is 53.5 to 57.5 mm across and weighs 8900 kg/km. Type 6110 also has higher current ratings than the unscreened types, 265 A against 245 A at 3×95.
- Screened coresCopper-backed tape screen on each core for earth-fault detection and field control on 6.6 kV feeders.
- Single steel armourGalvanized steel pliable armour with the same armour resistance as Type 6010.
- Gassy and dusty workingsSpecified for deep mines where explosive gases and dust can accumulate; mine approval is quoted per order.
- Nine conductor sizes3×16 to 3×185 mm², rated 94 A to 390 A continuous at 25 °C.

FAQ
Selection questions
What is MGM 118 Type 6110 and how does it differ from Types 6010 and 6020?
Type 6110 is the 3800/6600 V MGM 118 cable with a copper-backed tape screen on each core and single galvanized steel armour. MGM 118 Type 6010 has the same armour but no core screens, and MGM 118 Type 6020 is unscreened with two layers of armour.
When should I specify a screened 6.6 kV cable?
When your earth-leakage or earth-fault protection relies on each core being surrounded by an earthed metallic layer, when the mine's electrical rules require screened medium-voltage feeders, or when the cable runs close to control and communication circuits. If none of these apply, the unscreened Type 6010 is lighter and lower in copper.
Which details are needed for a quotation?
Send the conductor size, length per drum and total length, system voltage and earthing arrangement, any required screen fault rating, whether the optional galvanized steel tape armour separator is needed, sheath marking, and the mine approval or test report you require.
How does Type 6110 compare with MGM 109 Type 3123?
MGM 109 Type 3123 is the screened 3300 V cable of the MGM 109 series, with a copper tape screen and double armour. Type 6110 brings individual core screens to the 6.6 kV level with single armour. Pick by system voltage first, then by the armour your route needs.

Quality Assurance
Testing at every stage in our own workshop and laboratory, from incoming copper to the packed drum.

Raw Material Inspection
Every batch of copper rod, rubber compound and reinforcing material is checked before it reaches the line.
- Copper: conductor resistance, elongation and surface condition on incoming rod and drawn wire
- EPR, CPE, PUR and silicone compounds: hardness, tensile strength, elongation and ageing samples from each mix
- Suppliers and batch numbers are recorded so every drum can be traced back to its materials

Manufacturing Process Control
Stranding, insulation extrusion, core assembly and sheathing run under recorded process parameters.
- Class 5/6 stranding with lay length and tension monitored for trailing and reeling flexibility
- Continuous-vulcanisation extrusion with wall thickness and spark tests logged on every length
- Operators sign off each stage before the cable moves to the next machine

Electrical Testing
Finished lengths go through the routine tests required by the referenced VDE, ICEA, IEC or NEK standard.
- Conductor resistance and insulation resistance on every length
- Voltage withstand (3.5 kV and higher) and partial-discharge measurement in the shielded HV laboratory
- Screen and pilot-core continuity checks for mining and reeling constructions

Mechanical and Ageing Tests
Samples from production are tested for the duty a mining, crane or submersible cable will actually see.
- Tensile strength and elongation of insulation and sheath before and after ageing
- Hot-set, ozone, oil-immersion and low-temperature bending tests
- Constant-temperature water bath for insulation resistance of submersible constructions

Flame Test and Final Inspection
Before packing, the cable is checked against the order and the flame-performance requirement of its standard.
- Single-cable vertical flame test to IEC 60332-1-2 where specified
- Metre marking, printing, drum length and appearance inspection
- Test report and packing list issued with every shipment
