MGM 109 Type 3023 is the unscreened, double-armoured 1900/3300 V member of the MGM 109 armoured cable family. It has three PVC-insulated Class 2 copper cores laid up without individual metallic screens, a PVC bedding and two layers of galvanised steel wire armour, built to the MGM 109 specification of the Turkish Hard Coal Enterprises MGM mining cable series.
It is a fixed-installation cable for supplying machines and equipment at 3.3 kV in deep mines where explosive gases and dust may accumulate and in surface installations. It is the workhorse feeder for shaft, incline and main-roadway runs where the mine accepts unscreened 3.3 kV cores but needs the tensile strength of a double armour.

Application & Features
Selection overview
The main 3.3 kV feeders of a mine often leave the surface substation, drop down the shaft and then follow the main roadways to district substations. Along that route the cable hangs vertically, crosses loading points and runs past conveyors and rail haulage. Type 3023 is built for exactly this: two layers of galvanised steel wire take the weight of a long vertical drop and protect the cores against impact, while the Class 2 conductors cover everything from a 3×16 mm² spur to a 3×400 mm² main feeder.
Because the cores carry no copper screen, Type 3023 is about 2 mm smaller in diameter than the screened Type 3123 of the same size, which eases glanding and drum capacity. Where the route is horizontal and tensile load is modest, the single-armoured Type 3013 saves further weight and diameter.
- 3.3 kV main feedersUnscreened 1900/3300 V cores for fixed feeders where the mine does not require a screen per phase.
- Double wire armourTwo galvanised steel wire layers for shafts, inclines and heavily trafficked roadways.
- Gassy and dusty workingsSpecified for deep mines where explosive gases and dust may accumulate, and for surface plant; mine approval is quoted per order.
- Full size range3×16 to 3×400 mm², 82 to 620 A at 25 °C, for spurs up to main substation feeders.

FAQ
Selection questions
What is MGM 109 Type 3023 and how does it differ from the other MGM 109 types?
Type 3023 is the 1900/3300 V, three-core, unscreened, double-armoured type in the MGM 109 armoured cable specification of the Turkish Hard Coal Enterprises MGM series. The screened Type 3123 adds a copper tape screen on each core, and Type 3013 keeps the unscreened cores with a single armour layer. The 600/1000 V equivalents are Type 1023/1024 (double armour) and Type 1012/1013/1014 (single armour).
Type 3023 or Type 3013: double or single armour?
Pick Type 3023 for vertical shaft runs, steep inclines and routes with a high risk of impact, where the cable must carry its own weight. Type 3013 suits horizontal roadway runs on hangers; it is 4 to 6 mm smaller in diameter and 7 to 11% lighter for the same size, but it is offered only from 3×50 to 3×185 mm².
Type 3023 or the screened Type 3123?
If your mine's rules or protection scheme require an earthed screen on every 3.3 kV core, use Type 3123. Otherwise Type 3023 gives the same conductor sizes and current ratings in a smaller diameter.

Quality Assurance
Testing at every stage in our own workshop and laboratory, from incoming copper to the packed drum.

Raw Material Inspection
Every batch of copper rod, rubber compound and reinforcing material is checked before it reaches the line.
- Copper: conductor resistance, elongation and surface condition on incoming rod and drawn wire
- EPR, CPE, PUR and silicone compounds: hardness, tensile strength, elongation and ageing samples from each mix
- Suppliers and batch numbers are recorded so every drum can be traced back to its materials

Manufacturing Process Control
Stranding, insulation extrusion, core assembly and sheathing run under recorded process parameters.
- Class 5/6 stranding with lay length and tension monitored for trailing and reeling flexibility
- Continuous-vulcanisation extrusion with wall thickness and spark tests logged on every length
- Operators sign off each stage before the cable moves to the next machine

Electrical Testing
Finished lengths go through the routine tests required by the referenced VDE, ICEA, IEC or NEK standard.
- Conductor resistance and insulation resistance on every length
- Voltage withstand (3.5 kV and higher) and partial-discharge measurement in the shielded HV laboratory
- Screen and pilot-core continuity checks for mining and reeling constructions

Mechanical and Ageing Tests
Samples from production are tested for the duty a mining, crane or submersible cable will actually see.
- Tensile strength and elongation of insulation and sheath before and after ageing
- Hot-set, ozone, oil-immersion and low-temperature bending tests
- Constant-temperature water bath for insulation resistance of submersible constructions

Flame Test and Final Inspection
Before packing, the cable is checked against the order and the flame-performance requirement of its standard.
- Single-cable vertical flame test to IEC 60332-1-2 where specified
- Metre marking, printing, drum length and appearance inspection
- Test report and packing list issued with every shipment
